Weeks ago two fortune cookies
arrived with my stir-fry and steamed rice.
They were enclosed in those little plastic wraps.
I opened one and read my fortune
revealing how my past reflected my future.
But now one cookie remains.
It was intended for the egg roll and steamed rice
customer who also dwells in my home -
my husband.
But, that cookie is patiently
sitting on a shelf in my kitchen.
If I open it whose fortune is revealed?
Once I claimed it for myself
I would feel like a thief.

Spring
Full circle -
Spring has returned.
Nature is not a fill in the blank.
Or a paint by numbers canvas.
Colors -purple, blue, yellow and gold
pop between the million hues of green
unmatched by any paint found in a can.
Large bumble bees stride by while birds feast in the wet grass
occasionally taking leave together for
a new more fertile plot of land. The wet dew glistens on the top blade of each towering grass a sea of diamond glazed beauty. A duck’s long neck peering out from below – Loch Nest Monster of the Kentucky Bluegrass. The creek runs over with a bounty of water
from the spring rains that came down all day.
I knew today would be a perfect day for along visit to my refuge.
Nature settling after the rains – just as I’m settling in my new skin –
Shed of many years now born anew.
